Herbs, Essential Oils and foods for healthy, strong nails
Flax Seed: Ground or taking internally via cooking with flax seed oil. Besides all the amazing health benefits of flax seed, it seems to have a wonderful effect on nails. After 2-3 weeks of using flax seed on a daily basis, you'll notice not only are you nails harder, but they grow faster too! Flax seed (ground or mealed) can be found in almost every major grocer for under $4.00 a box. Add it to yogurt, cereal or just about anything!
  • Lemongrass: astringent
  • Frankincense:antioxidant, antiseptic, increase in circulation
  • Lemon:  antiseptic, great for brittle nails
  • Myrrh: antiseptic, antifungal and astringent properties. Great for athlete’s foot
Hemp Seed Oil: Highest amount of the polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic acids) making it a key nutritive ingredient in anti-inflammatory skin care formulations. Hemp Seed Oil is said to aid in the healing of skin lesions, dry skin, inflammations of the skin and joints.

Camellia Oil: Camellia Oil is a rich source of other omega 3,6 and 9 fatty acids plus Vitamin E and polyphenols. Great for anti-aging nail care and a wonderful aid to faster growing nail recipes!!!

Coconut Oil: light and non-greasy, very nourishing

Olive Oil: very nourishing
  • Alfalfa: Alfalfa leaf is used in baths to relieve fatigue, muscle tenderness, and the pain and inflammation of rheumatism and arthritis.
  • Burdock root: antibacterial, astringent, skin soothing extract that tones the skin and reduces the chances of irritation
  • Oatstraw: Oatstraw tops are high in silica and extremely nourishing to the skin. Silica repairs weak nails. Silica, a form of the mineral silicon, may help your body produce collagen and strengthen bones.
  • Gotu kola: regenerating and strengthening
  • Royal jelly: Royal Jelly contains collagen, lecithin, protein, sugars, mineral salts and vitamins A, C, D and E. Royal Jelly also contains the B vitamin complex and is especially rich in pantothenic acid
  • additional herbs: spirulina, kelp, black cohosh, horsetail
Almonds contain fatty acids that are good for your nail
Cauliflower- Eat tons of it! It has Biotin that helps strength nails, and thicken them.
Consume foods that are rich in silicon and sulphur, such as fish, broccoli, cauliflower and onions. incorporate food rich in biotin such as brewer's yeast, soy and whole grains.
  • Evening primrose: high in gamma-linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid) making it an exceptional skin nourishing oil. Nourishes the scalp, hair, and nails
  • Lavender: antiseptic, antifungal and astringent properties. Great for athlete’s foot
  • Tea tree: the strongest anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial essential oil
  • Patchouli: anti-inflammatory. Great for anti-aging hand care recipes
  • Sandalwood: astringent effect on oily skin and helps soothe irritated skin.

When using carrier oils in nail care recipes, look for oils high in Omega 3's.  All can be used as a carrier oil in your homemade nail recipes. A  carrier oil is used when using essential oils. Wheat Germ Oil:  Naturally rich in Vitamins A, D, and E, and also contains Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, F, Essential Fatty Acids, protein, and minerals.
